چکیده
• Welfare effects of taxation and other costs under imperfect competition are analyzed. Formulas for the marginal value public funds incidence provided. Our framework can be readily extended to encompass firm heterogeneity. This paper provides a comprehensive study welfare multiple policy interventions external changes with emphasis on specific ad valorem as leading case. Specifically, in relation tax pass-through, we provide “sufficient statistics” formulas two measures fairly general class demand, production cost, market competition. The (i) (i.e., change consumer producer surplus relative an increase net cost government), (ii) ratio surplus). We begin case symmetric firms facing both unit taxes derive simple empirically relevant set formulas. Then, substantial generalization these results heterogeneity by using idea revenue that is specified function parameterized vector instruments including government non-government than taxation.

Fragmentation, welfare, and imperfect competition
In this paper, I explore the effect of fragmentation of production processes on social welfare in the imperfectly competitive market. In particular, I examine the welfare properties of fragmentation from the viewpoint of industrialized countries. Firms located at a country decide whether they produce at home or move their production overseas. I show that there exists Nash equilibrium in which a...
متن کاملOn welfare losses due to imperfect competition
Corporate managers and executive compensation in many industries place significant emphasis on measures of firm size, such as sales revenue or market share. Such objectives have an important – yet thus far unquantified – impact on market performance. With n symmetric firms, equilibrium welfare losses are of order 1/n4, and thus vanish extremely quickly. Welfare losses are less than 5% for many ...
متن کاملWelfare losses under Cournot competition
In a market for a homogeneous good where firms are identical, compete in quantities and produce with constant returns, the percentage of welfare losses (PWL) is small with as few as five competitors for a class of demand functions which includes linear and isoelastic cases. We study markets with positive fixed costs and asymmetric firms. We provide exact formulae of PWL and robust constructions...
متن کاملThe welfare cost of imperfect competition and distortionary taxation ¬リニ
The welfare cost of imperfect competition in the product and labor markets in the United States is quantified in a dynamic general equilibrium model. We find that the welfare cost of imperfect competition in the product market is 3.62 percent while it is 0.58 percent in the labor market, taking the transition path from the distorted to the optimal steady state into account. If we also take into...
متن کاملOn Storage Behavior under Imperfect Competition
This paper investigates the economic implications of storage behavior under imperfect competition. It evaluates the economic dynamics implied by a storage firm under alternative market structures. This includes perfect competition as well as imperfect competition under Cournot behavior. The conceptual analysis is used to specify and estimate a model of storage behavior, with an econometric appl...
